G. Stjean et al., THE CLINICAL USE OF HYPERTONIC SALINE SOLUTION IN FOOD ANIMALS WITH HEMORRHAGIC AND ENDOTOXIC-SHOCK, Agri-Practice, 14(7), 1993, pp. 6
Hypertonic saline solution induces a rapid but transient increase in p
lasma volume, cardiac output, and mean arterial pressure. This solutio
n can be useful to veterinary practitioners and their clients because
it provides a rapid and inexpensive technique for the initial resuscit
ation of food animals in hemorrhagic or endotoxic shock. Hypertonic sa
line should be used as an adjunct to therapy and not as a cure-all.
