Abstract
The morphogenetic development of the cichlid fish Oreochromis mossambi cus (Perciformes Teleostei) was characterized from fertilization to to tal fin development, classified into 25 exactly defined stages. Additi onally the major stages are presented by detailed line drawings. The s tudy given provides a basis for comparative purposes of the developmen t of a cichlid fish (Oreochromis mossambicus) with other fish species and may serve especially as a standard for estimating developmental st ages of Oreochromis without regarding rearing and experimental conditi ons.
