Abstract
Membrane fractions from embryogenic cultures of carrot ( Daucus carota ) incorporated [C-14]xylose from UDP[C-14]Xyl into lipids. The biosynt hesis seems to be constitutive with the incorporation rate being highe r in undifferentiated cells as compared to embryos. Most of the labell ed xylolipids were neutral and consisted of a steryl-[C-14]xyloside an d three of its acylated derivatives, Traces of an anionic lipid-[C-14] xylose behaving as a polyprenol derivative were also detected.
