Abstract
A protoheme derivative with covalently-bound tris(2,2'-bipyridine) rut henium (11) [Ru(bpy)3]2+ was successfully incorporated into apo-myoglo bin. In the reconstituted myoglobin emission of [Ru(bpy)3]2+ was quen ched intramolecularly, the efficiency being greater by more than 30-fo ld than that of the corresponding intermolecular process.
