Abstract
A review is presented of ultrafast all-optical switching in guided wav e formats for broad bandwidth all-optical communication networks. The physics underlying ultrafast optical nonlinearities is discussed and t he application of these nonlinearities to data transmission and all-op tical switching is covered.
