GENERATION OF A STABLE SIGMA-BONDED IRON(IV) PORPHYRIN - FORMATION AND REACTIVITY OF [(OETPP)FE(IV)(C6H5)]N-3, OETPP = DIANION OF ,17,18-OCTAETHYL-5,10,15,20-TETRAPHENYLPORPHYRIN)( (N = 1)

This work reports the first generation and spectral characterization o f a sigma-bonded iron(IV) porphyrin which is stable in nonaqueous medi a at room temperature, as well as the first monomeric iron(III) porphy rin to undergo three reversible one-electron oxidations. It also gives the first example where the migration of a sigma- bonded axial ligand occurs from a doubly and not singly oxidized iron porphyrin.
