Dinuclear complexes of palladium and platinum, containing two bridging
hydroxo ligands, [L2M2Ph2(mu-OH)2], where M = Pd, Pt and L = Ph3P, Cy
3P, readily react with cyclopentadiene or methylcyclopentadiene to giv
e the corresponding eta5-cyclopentadienyl complexes, [(eta5-C5H4Y)M(Ph
)L] (Y = H, Me), 2a-d and 3, in 65-95 % yield. This novel method does
not require any organometallic reagents for the Cp transfer to palladi
um and platinum. Complex 2a (M = Pd, L = PPh3, R = H), was structurall
