Dl. Clay et al., RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANGER EXPRESSION AND STRESS IN PREDICTING DEPRESSION, Journal of counseling and development, 72(1), 1993, pp. 91-94
In this study the authors examine the relationship between anger expre
ssion and stressful life events as predictors of depression among coll
ege students. Measures of anger expression, stressful life events, and
depression were completed by 247 undergraduates. Results of hierarchi
cal multiple regression analyses indicated that anger directed inward
and stressful life events were significant orthogonal predictors of de
pression. Because anger directed inward and stressful life events seem
to be independent and additive predictors of depression, both play an
important role in the assessment of depression. Counseling strategies
based on such assessments may need to be multimodal and individualize
