The principles and methods of discovering and study of ''hot particles
'' formed after Chernobyl accident in 1986 are discussed. Definition a
nd classification of ''hot particles'' are given. Experimental data on
''hot particles'' distribution are given as well as on the elements a
nd radionuclides present. A part of ''hot particles'' in total gamma-r
adioactivity of soil within 30-km zone around Chernobyl NPP was determ
ined. A technique of ''hot particles'' extraction from soil samples by
using collimated microradiometer is discussed.
