SiO2-Sm2O3 vitreous films 120 nm thick were obtained via the sol-gel m
ethod. Infrared, energy-dispersive analysis of X-rays, spectroscopic e
llipsometry and absorption spectroscopy showed a total inclusion of sa
marium in the silica matrix, which remains amorphous up to 1000-degree
s-C. The inclusion of the samarium ion increases the porosity. The opt
ical properties of films were investigated by spectro-ellipsometry, an
d the parameters obtained were compared with those obtained by other t
echniques.
