Abstract
This article reviews the literature on the classification and treatmen t of psychiatric morbidity associated with infection from the human im munodeficiency virus (HIV). The psychiatric disorders seen in HIV-infe cted patients are formulated by using one of the following four perspe ctives as treatment guides: 1) the syndromal or disease perspective, 2 ) the dispositional or personality perspective, 3) the behavioral or a ddictive perspective, and 4) the life story perspective.
