Jr. Morales et al., MAJOR COMPONENTS OF AEROSOLS EMITTED BY THE LONQUIMAY VOLCANO, CHILE, Journal of radioanalytical and nuclear chemistry, 172(1), 1993, pp. 181-192
PIXE (Particle Induced X-my Emission) analysis has been performed on a
erosols emitted by a vent opened near the crater of the volcano Lonqui
may in the Southern part of Chile. Contents of eight major elements ha
ve been obtained from samples collected in the early stage of the erup
tion in sites within 20 kilometers from the vent. Results indicate Al,
Si, Ca, and Fe as the most abundant elements in proportions comparabl
e with chemical and X-ray diffraction studies on ash and bombs.
