Abstract
A laser operating at the new wavelength of 2.69 mum is described. Its design and technical characteristics under Q-switched conditions are r eported. The advantages of the laser as compared with Er:YAG lasers ar e noted, and the effects of this radiation on biological tissue are re ported. The laser is likely to find extensive applications in medicine .
