Reactions of tin(II) halides with substituted 5-arylazosalicylaldehyde
afforded solid 1:1 adducts in each case. The products were coloured s
olids with minimal solubilities in most unreactive solvents. Based on
infrared spectral studies a tetrahedral structure is suggested for the
adducts where the bidentate ligand is bonded to tin through the pheno
lic oxygen atom and the oxygen atom of the aldehydic group.
