Diorganotin(IV) diperchlorate complexes of heterocyclic ligands of the
composition (R2SnLn)(ClO4)2 with L = pyridine, quinoline, 2,2'-bipyri
dine and 1,10-phenanthroline, have been Prepared and characterized by
molar conductance measurements and IR, H-1 NMR and Sn-119 Mossbauer sp
ectroscopic studies. The complexes with two monodentate ligands are re
ported as tetrahedral while the complexes with four monodentate or two
-bidentate ligands as distorted octahedral structures where the R2Sn g
roup occupying a trans-position. Distortion of the C-Sn-C bond angle f
rom linearity has been calculated. Its value lies between 146-162-degr
ees (R = methyl) and 145-degrees (R = phenyl).
