Aluminium(III) complexes of the types AlX2(L), AlX(L)2 and Al(L)3 (whe
re X = isopropoxy group and LH = ligand molecule) have been synthesize
d by the reactions of aluminium isopropoxide with thiosemicarbazones o
f furfuraldehyde, 3-indolecarbaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde and 2-pyridinec
arbaldehyde. These complexes have been characterized on the basis of e
lemental analyses and physicochemical measurements. The electronic, IR
and H-1 NMR spectral studies reveal a bidentate chelating nature of a
ll the ligands and, accordingly, penta- and hexa-coordinated environme
nts for aluminium metal in the resulting 1:1 and 1:2 and 1:3 complexes
, respectively, have been confirmed.
