LIGHT VARIATIONS AND FLARES ON V471 TAURI

Two-colour photometric observations of the white-dwarf and K-dwarf ecl ipsing binary V471 Tau were made during the last four years. The resul ting light curves and thirteen timings of mid-eclipse am presented. Du ring the observations two flares were obtained on September 23 and Dec ember 23, 1992. Both events occurred just after the fourth contact. Th e increment in the brightness was measured as 0.067m. The energy liber ated by the flare was computed to be 5.43 x 10(32) erg s-1 in the John son B band, which amounts 1.13 times that of the total radiation of th e K-dwarf.
