The activity coefficients of sodium bromide in MgBr2, CaBr2, SrBr2 and
BaBr2 were determined at 298 K and constant total ionic strengths of
0.1, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mol kg-1 at 298 K using emf technique
s. The experimental activity coefficients were analyzed using the Hame
d, Scatchard, Reilly et al. and Pitzer equations. Using the values of
mixing parameters obtained from the above equations, the excess Gibbs
energies of mixing were calculated. Trace activity coefficients were a
lso calculated and discussed in the light of modern theories of electr
olyte solutions.
