Abstract
We describe chemical preparation and crystal structure of guanidinium cyclooctaphosphate dihydrate (CN3H6)8P8O24.2H2O. This new example of a P8O24 ring anion is monoclinic, P2(1)/n, with Z = 2 and the following unit-cell dimensions : a=12.621(4), b=20.41(1), c=9.365(6) angstrom, beta=110.45(4)-degrees The P8O24 ring anion is, as in most of the prev iously reported examples. centrosymmetrical. Crystal structure has bee n performed with a final R value of 0.037 for 4549 independent reflect ions.The hydrogen-bond scheme is given.
