Abstract
Existing rotationally invariant electroelastic equations are reduced t o the case of large electric fields and small strain. These latter equ ations are specialized to the case of thin plates with completely elec troded major surfaces, and it is shown that in this case the charge eq uation of electrostatics is satisfied trivially to lowest order. It is further shown that for the thin stress-free polarized ferroelectric c eramic plate subject to large electric fields, the resulting equations readily account for experimental data in existence in the literature.
