The combination of PIXE and RBS measurements enables the deconvolution
of the interference between the Cd-L- and the K-K(alpha)-line for the
quantitative analysis of Cd-concentration in the ppm region. An evalu
ation of the experimental data using the results of these measurements
is given. The scattering cross sections for protons on nitrogen, oxyg
en, silicon and potassium were determined in the energy range between
1.0 and 1.8 MeV by means of calibration standards formed by ion implan
tation in order to reduce the experimental error of the RBS investigat
ion. A comparison with alternative methods confirms the accuracy and s
ensitivity of our measurements.
