A discrete stochastic model is used to derive analytic expressions for
various quantities relating to photon transport through an optically
turbid slab. Several theoretical predictions, including those of the d
istributions of total path length, diffuse surface reemissions, and ti
me-resolved point intensities, are examined by comparison with Monte C
arlo simulations of a continuous-random-walk model of photon migration
through a semi-infinite medium of finite thickness.
