Abstract
This article reviews mainly some of the recent achievements in the fie ld of high pressure physics like the metallization of solid hydrogen a t ultra high pressures, the observation of a new phase of carbon in co mpressed solid C60 and critical point phenomena in rare earth compound s like SmS and Sm4Bi3.
