The three-dimensional stress analysis of Kollar and Springer (1992. In
t. J. Solids Structures 29, 1499-1517) is applied to a fiber-reinforce
d organic matrix composite cylindrical segment subjected to hygrotherm
al and mechanical loads. The segment can have an arbitrary arc length.
The straight edges of the segment can be free, fixed or hinged. The w
all of the cylindrical segment may be ''thin'' or ''thick''. An indivi
dual fiber is at the same radial distance from the axis: no other rest
rictions are placed either on fiber orientations or on stacking sequen
ce. The applied hygrothermal and mechanical loads may vary radially an
d circumferentially, but not axially. Solutions are presented which yi
eld radially and circumferentially varying strains and stresses inside
the composite cylindrical segment. To illustrate the capability of th
e resulting computer code, sample problems are discussed.
