Sr. Goldberg et al., GASTROINTESTINAL HELMINTHS OF 5 HORNED LIZARD SPECIES, PHRYNOSOMA (PHRYNOSOMATIDAE) FROM ARIZONA, Journal of the Helminthological Society of Washington, 60(2), 1993, pp. 234-238
Five species of homed lizards of the genus Phrynosoma from Arizona wer
e examined for gastrointestinal helminths. Phrynosoma cornutum (N = 7)
and Phrynosoma solare (N = 8) harbored the cestode Diochetos phrynoso
matis and the nematodes Atractis penneri and Skrjabinoptera phrynosoma
. Phrynosoma douglassii (N = 19) and Phrynosoma platyrhinos (N = 5) co
ntained both species of nematodes, whereas Phrynosoma modestum (N = 5)
harbored only S. phrynosoma. Phrynosoma cornutum and P. douglassii ar
e new hosts for A. penneri; P. modestum is a new host for S. phrynosom
a. It appears that gastrointestinal helminths of Arizona homed lizards
are restricted to 3 species. Diochetos parvovaria is placed in synony
my with D. phrynosomatis.
