MALASSEZIA-FURFUR

The current status of our knowledge of Malassezia furfur is reviewed. First, the taxonomy, morphology and physiology/biochemistry of the dim orphic yeast is covered. The distribution and incidence of M. furfur o n normal human skin and the association of M. furfur with cutaneous di seases is then discussed. The literature on systemic M. furfur infecti on is presented followed by a critical review of host defence interact ions with M. furfur.
