Abstract
The relationship between the non-hermitian (R) and hermitian (W) forms of the effective interaction and the corresponding eigenvectors is di scussed. We calculate the exact hermitian effective interaction in the sd and pf shells using the Bonn-A and Paris potentials. We comment up on the fact that W can be well approximated by 1/2(R + R(dagger)).
