As a model for the electronic structure of C60, the Schrodinger equati
on has been solved for a free electron in a spherical shell of finite
width. Once the mean radius is fixed at its experimental value and imp
osing the experimental condition of a single electronic shell, the dif
ferences between energy levels are almost independent of the parameter
s of the model: shell width and potential depth. They are close to the
values obtained from a 2D model of a free-electron on a sphere.
