M. Rettig et al., THE EFFECT OF SOCIAL AND ISOLATE TOYS ON THE SOCIAL INTERACTIONS OF PRESCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN, Education and training in mental retardation, 28(3), 1993, pp. 252-256
The differences in the social interactions of preschool-aged nondisabl
ed and children with disabilities in 2 toy conditions was investigated
. Social toys and isolate toys were presented in a systematic manner t
o 24 children 3-5 years of age for approximately 7 weeks. Results indi
cated that the 5-year-old children displayed more social interactions
in the social toy condition. Further, the disabled subjects displayed
more social interactions in the social toy condition. Nondisabled subj
ects had a higher rate of social interventions in both toy conditions
as compared to the disabled subjects.
