Abstract
The evolution of the severe storm of 10 January 1993, has been describ ed elsewhere by Hewson and by McCallum and Graham, who christened it t he 'Braer Storm' because of its unfortunate consequences for the stric ken tanker. This article looks at the problems of forecasting such an explosive development and highlights some data problems that arose fro m the extremely low sea-level pressure.
