Spatial-angular characteristics of dye lasers pumped by coaxial pulse
lamps are studied experimentally. Laser radiation divergence is shown
to be determined chiefly by the competition of refractive and closed b
eam trajectories. The refractive trajectories arise owing to thermal d
istortions of the active medium, whereas the closed trajectories are d
ue to Fresnel reflection on the walls of the cell. The experimental re
sults are in a satisfactory agreement with the previous studies. Recom
mendations on the desing of efficient dye lasers with high radiation d
irectionality are given.
