A wide-band microwave amplifier is described that can operate against
an arbitrary load and with an input signal up to 20 dB higher than the
nominal value. This was achieved by adding a current and voltage prot
ection system in the intermediate stages of the amplifier. The amplifi
er has a pass band of 10-1000 MHz, an amplitude-frequency characterist
ic irregularity of +/-1 dB, a gain of 40 dB, and a maximum output powe
r of 4 W.
