The g-factor of the 8+ isomer of 142Eu with mean life tau = 9 n s, has
been measured by the time-differential perturbed gamma ray angular di
stribution (TDPAD) method. The 8+ isomer was populated with the reacti
on Cd-114(S-32, p 3n)142Eu at 155 MeV. The obtained value g(8+) = 0.51
(3) agrees with shell model calculations using effective single-parti
cle moments taken from neighbouring nuclei. A main configuration pih11
/2 x (nuh11/2)-1 has been confirmed for the 8+ isomer.
