Abstract
This paper presents an analytical approach for estimating the friction coefficient between a tire and the road. We analyzed the friction coe fficient in real time, based on a brush type tire model with unlimited carcass stiffness. The validation experiments were conducted on wet a nd dry surfaces on an indoor drum type tire-testing machine. The calcu lated friction coefficients agreed well with the measured values.
