D. Mathieu et al., THE SIMPLEX-METHOD APPLIED TO THE DETECTION AND FOLLOWING OF A DISCONTINUITY, Chemometrics and intelligent laboratory systems, 20(1), 1993, pp. 25-34
We present a new application of the so-called simplex method often use
d in optimization. It is proposed here as a method for following a con
tour or discontinuity. The method ensures that all the experiments per
formed are situated within the required accuracy from the investigated
curve. The accuracy depends on the size of the simplex. The method ca
n also be used to follow the meanders of a contour. Traditional method
s (parallel sequences or lines radiating from a point) are inadequate
when the curve studied is tangential to the lines. Several examples fr
om the study of mixtures and other typical situations are presented.
