Ct. Sun et al., AN INVESTIGATION OF THE MECHANICAL-BEHAVIOR OF SCS-6 TI-6-4 METAL-MATRIX COMPOSITE AT ELEVATED-TEMPERATURES/, Composites science and technology, 49(2), 1993, pp. 183-190
The orthotropic, non-linear stress/strain behavior of SCS-6/Ti-6-4 met
al matrix composite at room temperature, 204-degrees-C and 316-degrees
-C was investigated experimentally by testing off-axis coupon specimen
s. A one-parameter plasticity model was used to describe this non-line
ar behavior. In addition, a micromechanical model assuming elastic fib
er and elastic-plastic matrix was used to estimate the fiber/matrix bo
nd strength on the basis of the apparent yield stress obtained from th
e off-axis test result. A failure criterion was also proposed from whi
ch the inplane shear strength of the composite was obtained.
