Copolymers of acrylonitrile with methacrylic acid were synthesized ele
ctrochemically. The reaction system consisted of dimethyl formamide as
solvent and various quarternary ammonium salts as supporting electrol
ytes. The influences of supporting electrolytes and electrode material
s on the compositions of the copolymers were investigated. The copolym
ers were characterized by i.r., NMR and elemental analyses. Thermal de
composition studies of the polymer in air are also discussed.
