Polydiphenylcarbosilane, obtained by a simple polycondensation of the
monomers dichlorodiphenylsilane and dibromomethane with sodium as redu
cing agent, reacts with triflic acid to triflate-substituted polycarbo
silanes. The conversion of these polymers with compounds containing ac
idic element hydrogen bonds leads to numerous new functional substitut
ed polycarbosilanes.
