J. Bruns et al., PERONEAL ENTRAPMENT OF THE COMMON PERONEA L NERVE DUE TO REPETITIVE ABDUCTION OF THE FLEXED KNEE-JOINT, Aktuelle Neurologie, 20(4), 1993, pp. 142-144
An unusual case of common peroneal nerve entrapment is reported. In a
flexed knee position a machine worker manipulated a switch of a machin
e 1000 times per day by abduction of the thigh and knee. Due to this s
pecific performance the biceps femoris muscle possibly has hypertrophi
ed and/or the common peroneal nerve was compromised between the biceps
femoris and lateral head of the gastrocnemius muscle, or direct mecha
nical irritation of the nerve proximal to the knee joint possibly caus
ed the peroneal entrapment. After soft-tissue revision proximal to the
knee joint with exposure of the muscular constriction and neurolysis
of the common peroneal nerve the patient was relieved of his symptoms.
