M. Loew et al., SONOGRAPHIC DIAGNOSIS OF INJURIES OF THE ACROMIOCLAVICULAR JOINT, Zeitschrift fur Orthopadie und Ihre Grenzgebiete, 131(4), 1993, pp. 302-306
The value of sonography for diagnosis of injuries of the acromioclavic
ular joint was examined in a prospective investigation. In 22 successi
ve patients sonography was used in two defined positions, the results
were compared with standard X-rays under weight loading. Only in 9 cas
es the findings could be controlled during operative exploration. In 1
6 cases, sonographic and radiologic findings were corresponding, in 6
cases both methods lead to different results. In all corresponding cas
es sonography was able to demonstrate direct or indirect signs of the
damage of acromioclavicular and coracoclavicular ligaments. In the ope
ratively controlled group in all cases the sonographic diagnosis was c
onfirmed.
