J. Ramanathan et P. Topiwala, TIME-FREQUENCY LOCALIZATION VIA THE WEYL CORRESPONDENCE, SIAM journal on mathematical analysis, 24(5), 1993, pp. 1378-1393
A technique of producing signals whose energy is concentrated in a giv
en region of the time-frequency plane is examined. The degree to which
a particular signal is concentrated is measured by integrating the Wi
gner distribution over the given region. This procedure was put forwar
d by Flandrin, and has been used for time-varying filtering in the rec
ent work of Hlawatsch, Kozek, and Krattenthaler. In this paper, the as
sociated operator is studied. Estimates for the eigenvalue decay and t
he smoothness and decay of the eigenfunctions are established.
