The optical properties of Tm3+ doped KLa(MoO4)(2) single crystals have
been measured at various temperatures between 10 and 298 K. All the o
bserved bands are inhomogeneously broadened as an effect of the random
distribution of the K+ and La3+ (Tm3+) ions in the scheelite crystal
lattice. The intensities of the absorption transitions have been analy
zed by means of the Judd-Ofelt theory. The spontaneous transition prob
ability, the branching ratios and the radiative lifetimes have been de
termined for the most important emitting states using the calculated i
ntensity parameters. They are in good agreement with the experimental
results. A structural analysis of the crystal lattice is also reported
