Abstract
After evaluating and optimizing several multichannel photomultiplier t ubes and small low cost side-window photomultiplier tubes we have devi sed two methods which, depending on the particular application, are vi able readout systems for a small to moderate number of fibers. The new 16 channel Hamamatsu R4760 photomultiplier tube offers, when timing i nformation is utilized, the lowest near neighbor cross-talk (<0.05%). The 931B side-window photomultiplier which is 30 mm in diameter is als o a good choice for moderate size multi-fiber readout when no cross-ta lk can be tolerated.
