Abstract
The effect of accelerated electrons on phenol adsorbed on silica gel a nd in contact with air was studied. Qualitative analysis of the phenol transformation products showed that irradiation of the system induced both dimerization of phenol into diphenyl compounds and its oxidation to trans-muconic acid by ozone generated in air by accelerated electr ons.
