Vi. Lukhovitskii et Vv. Polikarpov, ON THE EFFECT OF PHASE RATIO ON THE EFFICIENCY OF RADIATION GRAFTING IN LATEX SYSTEMS, High energy chemistry, 31(2), 1997, pp. 85-88
The effect of aqueous phase on the efficiency of radiation-induced gra
ft copolymerization of styrene and acrylonitrile onto butyl acrylate-a
crylonitrile copolymer and butyl rubber in latexes was studied. The mo
lecular mass of the butyl acrylate-acrylonitrile copolymer decreases a
nd the grafting efficiency increases with increase in the ratio of the
aqueous phase, thus suggesting that grafting sites emerge primarily d
ue to indirect action of gamma-radiation. This indirect action cannot
be explained in terms of interaction of primary products of water radi
olysis with polymer molecules in latex particles.
