A. Nishizonomaher et al., PSYCHOTIC SYMPTOMS IN DEPRESSION AND BORDERLINE PERSONALITY-DISORDER, Journal of affective disorders, 28(4), 1993, pp. 279-285
The authors investigated the prevalence of psychotic symptoms in depre
ssion and borderline personality disorder employing the Diagnostic Int
erview for Borderlines. Clear-cut delusions and hallucinations were ra
re among the borderlines. However, derealization and depersonalization
symptoms were common and were found to be prevalent as among depressi
ves. The prevalence of these symptoms among patients with both borderl
ine personality disorder and depression was similar to that among pati
ents with only borderline personality disorder or depression. The rela
tionship between depression and borderline personality disorder and th
e significance of psychotic symptoms in these disorders is discussed.
