E. Weissenbek et Fg. Rammerstorfer, INFLUENCE OF THE FIBER ARRANGEMENT ON THE MECHANICAL AND THERMOMECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF SHORT-FIBER-REINFORCED MMCS, Acta metallurgica et materialia, 41(10), 1993, pp. 2833-2843
A unit cell approach is used to investigate the influence of the fiber
arrangement (periodic and perturbed periodic) on the thermo-mechanica
l behavior of aligned short fiber reinforced MMCs. Two configurations
are compared, staggered and unstaggered fibers, with the first one des
cribing a more realistic composite. Whereas the global behavior of the
composite is not strongly influenced by the arrangement, the local mi
crostresses were found to differ significantly in the investigated arr
angements. The failure behavior is considered at the microlevel via a
damage indicator.
