S. Husain et al., GAS-CHROMATOGRAPHIC SEPARATION AND DETERMINATION OF ETHYL CHLOROACETATE REACTION MIXTURES, INDIAN JOURNAL OF CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY, 4(2), 1997, pp. 110-112
Ethyl chloroacetate (EGA) is a valuable chemical used in the preparati
on of crop protection agents and pharmaceutical intermediates. It is g
enerally prepared by the reaction of monochloroacetic acid(MCA) and et
hanol. Selective, accurate and rapid analytical methods are essential
for monitoring the reaction pathway and quantitative estimation of the
products during the process development of EGA. A gas chromatographic
(GC) method has been developed for the separation and quantitative de
termination of carbontetrachloride, ethanol, water and ECA using penty
l acetate as an internal standard. The method has been successfully ap
plied for the determination of the components of reaction mixtures of
EGA.
