Lo. Olsen et J. Serup, HIGH-FREQUENCY ULTRASOUND SCAN FOR NONINVASIVE CROSS-SECTIONAL IMAGING OF PSORIASIS, Acta dermato-venereologica, 73(3), 1993, pp. 185-187
Seventeen patients with psoriasis vulgaris were studied by high-freque
ncy (20 MHz) ultrasound imaging. An echo-lucent band located at the de
rmo-epidermal junction was characteristic. The band represents the com
bination of acanthotic epidermal thickening and inflammation. Thus, wi
th ultrasound the site within the skin where primary events take place
can be studied and followed non-invasively, i.e. with no known distur
bance and influence on the course of the disease.
