V. Venkatesalu et Kp. Chellappan, PHOTOSYNTHETIC CHARACTERISTIC OF SESUVIUM-PORTULACASTRUM L UNDER SALTSTRESS, Photosynthetica, 28(2), 1993, pp. 313-316
Sodium chloride (NaCl) concentrations 200 to 900 mM enhanced the photo
synthetic rate (P(N)) both in whole leaves and in mechanically isolate
d, intact mesophyll cells of a salt marsh halophyte Sesuvium portulaca
strum with a maximum at 600 mM NaCl. These changes were in agreement w
ith changes in chlorophyll concentration in leaves. Though the increas
ing salt concentrations resulted in leaf succulence, no change in the
photosynthetic carbon pathway was observed.
